Celtic Vagabond + Wild Eyed, Wicked & Oblivious

  • Down By Here 210 High Street Swansea, Wales, SA1 1PE United Kingdom (map)

Retro-celtic non-traditional sci-fi psychedelic rock and roll bubblegum fusion. A mix of Irish, folk and rock’n’roll tradition, in a retro futurist cinemagraphic universe… A celtic, 50’s sci-fi, electric experience fuelled by hundreds of years of cultural heritage and half a century’s worth of genre inspiration, Celtic Vagabond are a dazzling display of pure unadulterated love for our collective musical roots and a deeply-rooted nostalgia for the bands of our childhood.

P@ddy “King of the Rocket Men” O’Turner brings his own very personal angle to traditional Irish music, Like no other. The seventh son of the seventh son of a guitar maker, dragged around folk festivals as a young boy and made to learn the violin. He was usually the bow going in the wrong direction in the orchestra so gave up violin forever (or so he thought at the time) in favour of a guitar. He learned to rock, he learned to roll, he learned to set houses on fire.

Amos “The Mad Scientist” Von Furon, a student of the musical arts brings to the table a timeless mix of both old and new instruments, paying homage to folk tradition while pulling us gently into the future with otherworldly sounds seemingly taken directly from space itself.

Nino “El Baterista” Del Garcia Del Gomez. He hits stuff. A very serious percussionist. Just out of prison. Don’t mess with him.

Support comes from Wild Eyed, Wicked & Oblivious

Wild Eyed, Wicked And Oblivious are a great band to see live. Original, quirky folk music with great harmonies, and a wonderful sense of fun. Toe tapping, sing along songs. Their music is refreshingly different.

Folk with a hint of 60's harmonies, African rhythums, ska, a tea chest bass, and electronic wind instrument, 12 and six sting acoustic guitars, mandolin and a great percussion.....Singing tales about nature, the past, peace, love, mysterious things and zulu dreams. They encourage singing along, dancing without light pollution , and a copper-waltz.

Wild Eyed, Wicked and Oblivious blend original lyrics, with tight harmonies and changing lead voices, that rise to simple repetitive choruses that can be quickly learnt, with great rhythms and strong percussion, making it impossible not to tap and dance along. The Ewi and it's the massive range of moods, combines with Islywn’s home made tea crate base... a single string held taught above a hefty rectangular sounding box, something so simple shouldn’t be so good but it is....
